Mariah Carey Shares Throwback ‘Vision of Love’ Performance Video For Song’s Anniversary

Mariah Carey continued her career MC30 celebration on Sunday (May 16) when she posted video of what she captioned “the first vision” of her 1990 debut single “Vision of Love.” In an undated throwback video, Carey belts the lead single from her self-titled debut album with accompaniment from two backup singers and a piano player.

Swooping and dipping all over, Carey hits a run of wordless ad libs in the middle of the clip that take her from her higher register to a lower range, drawing tons of love and applause from her famous friends and admirers. “The first vision #HappyAnniversaryVisionOfLove,” Carey wrote alongside the clip of her performance of the track that first dropped on May 15, 1990.

Model and America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum gave it to heart emoji and a crown, while Holly Robinson Peete and Jimmy Jam posted a string of fire emoji. Normani could only summon an “agh” plus star, queen and heart emoji, and Tamar Braxton offered a “Sing that sis” to go with her fire symbols.

Jordin Sparks had a bit more to say, commenting, “SING QUEEEEEENNNNNN! Ughhhh one of my favorites.” The singer’s UK label also celebrated, with a tweet noting that “Vision” because the first of MC’s 19 No. 1 singles in the U.S., spending four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
