Not long after news of his death broke, musicians started paying tribute to the Emmy-nominated actor, who is up for this year’s supporting actor award for his portrayal of Montrose Freeman on HBO’s Lovecraft Country.

“A beautiful soul, a beautiful person, I’ll miss you always,” Mariah Carey captioned a mini gallery on Instagram of the two smiling and having a good time together. “Thank you for blessing us with your talent.”

“Until we meet again black man. May out ancestors welcome u with a ‘Job Well Done,'” Run the Jewels’ Killer Mike shared in a series of Instagram photos from a sit-down the two had. “I appreciate the love and respect shown and the words we shared. Having built a relationship. We talked infrequent but always honest and encouraging. … This although a day of mourning will be a love and hope filled one because having known you I know I have been made better.”

Said Anderson .Paak simply on his Instagram Stories, “Legends never die. Rest easy @bkbmg.” Singer and This Is Us star Mandy Moore also honored the late star on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Just an absolute genius. What an unbelievable loss.”
