Previously, all official documentation referred to her by her maiden name, Margot Elise Robbie.

The administrative change came to light in September 2026, though registry records indicate the update was processed on January 12. There has been no official explanation as to why Robbie chose to formalize the name change several years into her marriage. It appears the shift is primarily for legal and business purposes; professionally, the actress continues to work under the name Margot Robbie. This remains the case for her recent credits, including the series Sterling Point, which premiered on Prime Video this past August.

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley first met in 2013 on the set of the war drama Suite Française, where Robbie starred as a lead and Ackerley served as an assistant director. Their relationship evolved from a close friendship into a romance, leading to a private wedding ceremony in Byron Bay, Australia, in December 2016.
