Luke Hemmings and Sierra Deaton Welcome Their Baby: “Our Best-Kept Secret”

Luke Hemmings quietly embraced fatherhood on Friday, August 22, when the 5 Seconds of Summer frontman and his wife, musician Sierra Deaton, welcomed their first child—a daughter—away from public view.

Alongside a soft-focus shot of his newborn’s tiny hand and a nostalgic image of Deaton cradling her baby bump, Hemmings revealed on Instagram, “Our best kept secret … Written and Produced by Sierra and Luke Hemmings.”

He went on to explain in the comments that while they would have preferred to keep her arrival private indefinitely—just as they never shared their wedding photos—a forthcoming album cycle made a leak inevitable.

“To avoid speculation, we’re sharing this now and humbly ask for privacy,” he wrote. “If you see us in public, please refrain from photographing or sharing images of her. We won’t disclose her name, birthdate, or face anytime soon. Thank you for understanding and for all your support.”

Their baby girl arrives nearly four years after Hemmings and Deaton became engaged in 2018. At the time, he professed on Instagram, “With shaking hands but a full heart I proposed to my best friend earlier this year. I love you, Thao, and I can’t imagine my life without you @sierradeaton.”

As Hemmings hinted, 5 Seconds of Summer is gearing up for new music. After his 2024 EP Boy peaked at No. 99 on the Billboard 200, he reunited with Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin for a Nashville studio session, as documented on the band’s Instagram.

In June, bassist Calum Hood hinted at the band’s next chapter. Since their 2022 album 5SOS5 reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, they’ve been “always planning and dreaming up things,” he told Rolling Stone. “Fear not—there’s always something brewing.”
