Luis Fonsi is tapping into his balladeer roots with his new single titled “Nuestra Balada (Our Ballad).”
A departure from his previously released rhythmic-leaning tracks, including the global hit “Despacito,” the stripped-down track is a piano-powered romantic ballad that finds an emotional Fonsi singing about the meaning of true love.
“This song is pretty different from what I’ve been releasing lately but not different from what I’ve done and who I am as a songwriter and as a singer,” Fonsi tells Billboard. “It’s obviously very romantic and I felt I just needed to change it up and flip the script a little bit and release something super organic super romantic and very honest. That’s who I am.”
“Nuestra Balada” is Fonsi’s first solo single this year after releasing a handful of collaborations with artists such as Rauw Alejandro, Myke Towers, Farruko and Cali Y El Dandee. The track, co-written by Fonsi alongside Mauricio Rengifo and Andrés Torres (who also produced the song), will be part of Fonsi’s forthcoming studio album.
“I love to sing rhythmic songs. I love to collaborate and that’s something I will never stop doing but I also love to just grab my guitar or sit in the piano and just feel something very honest and very pure and that’s what ‘Nuestra Balada’ is all about. It’s a love song,” the 43-year-old artist adds.
Most recently, Fonsi crowned Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart with “Vacío,” reminiscent of the 2001 anthem “A Puro Dolor,” scoring him his 12th No. 1 on the tally. The Alejandro-assisted track peaked at No. 1 on the survey dated May 28.
“Nuestra Balada (Our Ballad)” is set to drop today (Nov. 4) at 8pm ET.
