Los Nuevos Federales Score First No. 1 on a Billboard Chart With ‘Calzones Finos’

Los Nuevos Federales score their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as “Calzones Finos” ascends 5-1 on the July 3-dated survey.

The jump earns the Nuevo León, Mexico-based band its first No. 1 on any Billboard chart. The quartet launched its Latin airplay chart career in August 2020 with the No. 13 high “Aunque Le Beses La Boca” by El Penco Leandro Rios where it’s featured. Since then, only one other track has arrived in the tally’s top 10: “El Mal Portado,” featuring Rios.

“Calzones Finos” rises 5-1 with a 25% gain in audience impressions, to 6.8 million, in the week ending June 27, according to MRC Data.

The song, produced by  Salvador Aponte and Rogelio Salazar, was released via Remex Music March 5. It concurrently pushes up the all-genre Latin Airplay chart with a 17-6 climb in its 11th week, the band’s first top 10 there.

Back on Regional Mexican Airplay, Los Nuevos Federales is just the third act to notch a first No. 1 on the list in 2020: Angela Aguilar and Eslabon Armado also bask in the win with “Dime Como Quieres,” with Christian Nodal (five weeks, starting Jan 20-dated list) and “Te Encontré,” with Ulices Chaidez (one week, chart dated June 26), respectively.

“Calzones Finos” also re-enters Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streams, at No. 31. It’s the group’s only entry and highest peak there.

Los Nuevos Federales is comprised of Juan Ángel Oliva (sixth bass, vocals) Alexis Martínez (accordion, backing vocals), Pedro Castillo (bass) and Nicolás Medel Ayala (snare-drums).
