Lorde returns to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Airplay chart for the first time since 2014 with “Solar Power,” which jumps 4-1 on the survey dated Aug. 7.
The song leads in its sixth week on the list, also marking Lorde‘s fastest rise to No. 1 on any airplay chart.
“Solar Power” is Lorde‘s third No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay. She led with her first two entries, “Royals,” for eight weeks in August-October 2013, and “Team,” for four frames in February-March 2014. Since then, she’d sent five entries onto Adult Alternative Airplay, led by the No. 4-peaking “Green Light” in 2017 before her latest triumph.
The reign of “Team” also marked Lorde‘s last rule on a U.S. airplay chart, with “Solar Power” snapping her seven-year drought.
Concurrently, “Solar Power” rises 12-11 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 3.2 million audience impressions, a 2% boost, in the week ending July 29, according to MRC Data. It also hit a No. 11 high a week earlier on Alternative Airplay (where Lorde boasts one leader, “Royals,” for seven weeks in 2013).
“Solar Power” ranks at No. 20 on the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally after reaching No. 6 in June. It earned 1.9 million U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads alongside its radio reach in the latest tracking frame.
The song is the lead single from Lorde‘s third studio album of the same name, due Aug. 20. A second tease from the LP, “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” jumps 42-18 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs with 2.9 million streams in its first full tracking week.
