Liam Gallagher Honors Late British Boxing Icon Ricky Hatton: “RIP Champ — Live Forever”

Liam Gallagher has expressed deep sorrow after the passing of British boxing great Ricky Hatton. The Oasis frontman wrote on X, “Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON it was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER.”

According to the BBC, Hatton, 46, was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester early on Sunday, September 14, 2025; authorities do not suspect foul play. Over a 15-year professional career he won 45 of 48 fights, capturing world titles at both light-welterweight and welterweight. Before his 2007 bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Hatton had built an unbeaten 43-0 record; he retired from the ring in 2012.

Hatton and the Gallagher brothers shared roots in Manchester. The connection was visible in 2008 when Liam and Noel carried Hatton’s world-title belts into the ring ahead of his Las Vegas matchup with Paulie Malignaggi.

Reflecting on his life and passions, Hatton once told the Daily Mail that, as a child, he dreamed of becoming a world champion, cheering on Manchester City and listening to Oasis — a wish he fulfilled by becoming a four-time world champion, headlining fights at the Etihad Stadium and befriending Noel and Liam Gallagher along the way.

Reports from NME note that Hatton attended one of Oasis’s early reunion concerts in Cardiff in July and later shared photos from Heaton Park in Manchester and a Dublin show with Noel and friends.

In one of his last public moments, footage shared in August shows Hatton at a Tenerife bar joining the house band for a rendition of Oasis’s “Wonderwall,” and later singing a karaoke version of “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

Oasis’s sold-out reunion tour continued with two shows in Mexico City over the weekend; the run is scheduled to return to London with concerts at Wembley Stadium on September 27–28, before heading to South Korea and Japan in October.
