Lauren Jauregui is speaking out against Amy Schumer, months after a video clip posted by the comedian on social media, in which Martin Luther King Jr. is seen denouncing antisemitism and expressing Israel‘s “right to exist.”
“I want all you passive genocidal freaks to keep Dr. King’s name tf out of your mouths tomorrow, thanks. I’m talking to you especially @amyschumer,” the former Fifth Harmony member wrote on Sunday (Jan. 14) via X. Jauregui has been an outspoken supporter of Palestine amid the Israel-Hamas war, often urging for a cease-fire and release of hostages.
The civil rights legend’s daughter, Bernice King, also responded to Schumer directly in the fall, writing on X, “Certainly, my father was against antisemitism, as am I. He also believed militarism (along with racism and poverty) to be among the interconnected Triple Evils. I am certain he would call for Israel’s bombing of Palestinians to cease, for hostages to be released and for us to work for true peace, which includes justice.”
King added, “He said, ‘Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.’ We have much to correct.”
Back in November, Schumer defended herself against backlash following a string of pro-Israel posts.
“What I want is EVERY HOSTAGE BACK. I want safety and freedom from Hamas for Palestinians and Israelis. I want safety for Jewish people and Muslims as well. Everyone. Just like you. I want peace,” said Schumer. “You will never see me wishing harm on anyone. Saying I’m Islamophobic or that I like genocide is crazy. So here you go by popular demand. Comments on.”
