Laufey Transports Listeners to Another World with ‘A Matter of Time’ – Stream It Now

The Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter unveils her latest opus, A Matter of Time, released via Vingolf Recordings in partnership with AWAL. This sophomore effort follows her critically acclaimed 2023 album Bewitched, which earned a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and secured a top-20 position on the Billboard 200.

For this project, Laufey (pronounced LAY-vay) reunited with longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart—her co-producer on earlier works—and enlisted Aaron Dessner, renowned for his contributions to Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, to co-produce for the first time.

Anchored by the ethereal singles “Silver Lining” and “Tough Luck,” A Matter of Time unfolds as a lush, jazz-inflected reverie, showcasing Laufey’s signature fusion of classical nuance and contemporary flair.

“I’ve always been deeply drawn to both classical music and jazz, and my goal has been to honor their traditions while charting my own course,” Laufey reflects. “With this album, I allowed my emotions to guide me freely.”

Echoing the spirit of her previous records—2022’s Everything I Know About Love and Bewitched—A Matter of Time serves as a blank canvas for Laufey’s storytelling, inviting listeners to discover new narratives with each listen.

To celebrate the release, Laufey transformed the Grammy Museum’s Ray Charles Terrace in downtown Los Angeles into an intimate showcase titled Drop: Laufey – A Benefit Program. The event combined fresh music, candid anecdotes, and drew notable attendees like Selena Gomez.

Dubbed “Laufey Land” by the industry, her distinctive blend of jazz and pop ignited a fierce bidding war among labels in 2023. Ultimately, she secured a global deal with AWAL that grants her full ownership of her work.

Born Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir and raised between Reykjavík and the Washington, D.C., area, she grew up immersed in orchestral compositions. Laufey cites Chopin, Liszt, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday among her foremost inspirations.

Since her emergence, Laufey has earned accolades including Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and TIME’s Women of the Year for 2025. She has sold out iconic venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Radio City Music Hall, and London’s Royal Albert Hall; performed with the LA Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, and China Philharmonic Orchestra; and founded the Laufey Foundation to empower aspiring young musicians.
