It is truly a shame to have missed such an iconic *NSYNC mini-reunion.
Joey Fatone, a familiar face to fans of the Broadway and touring productions of & Juliet, stepped back into the spotlight this past Tuesday (May 12) to host a high-energy *NSYNC fan night. The audience was already buzzing during a performance of the group’s chart-topping hit “It’s Gonna Be Me,” but the energy reached a fever pitch when Lance Bass made an unannounced appearance, bounding onto the stage for the song’s finale to the delight of the stunned crowd.
A viral clip shared on the official Instagram accounts of both & Juliet and Bass captured the electric atmosphere, featuring one captivated audience member who couldn’t help but scream in sheer disbelief.
According to reports from People, this impromptu duet was almost never meant to be. Bass had been attending a performance of the rival Tony-nominated production Titanique, but thanks to that show’s shorter runtime, he was able to dash through the streets of Manhattan just in time to join Fatone at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
While this specific collaboration was a one-time treat, “It’s Gonna Be Me” remains a cornerstone of & Juliet. The jukebox musical is a vibrant tribute to the legendary songwriter and producer Max Martin, weaving together massive anthems like Katy Perry’s “Roar,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” and Britney Spears’ classic “…Baby One More Time.”
Although he wasn’t there in the flesh, another *NSYNC legend was represented in the show: Justin Timberlake’s smash hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” is also a permanent fixture in the musical’s setlist.
