When Mother Monster calls, you answer. And Orville Peck is the latest artist to heed Lady Gaga‘s call to remix one of her Born This Way tracks for the 10th anniversary edition of the album.
His “Country Road Version” of the titular track will appear on the Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary special edition album, which will be released on June 18 via Interscope. The anniversary edition of the album will features all 14 songs from the original plus six tracks from different Gaga-approved artists who are “representing and advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community” to reimagine the songs of Born This Way. Peck’s addition is only the second to be announced so far. Gaga previously enlisted New Orleans icon Big Freedia to put her own bounce spin on fan-favorite “Judas.”
The Canadian masked country musician turns down the electro-pop production and kicks up his vocal twang on “Born This Way” while revising the lyrics in the breakdown and bridge.
“If I wanna make it country, baby, it’s OK/ I was born, I was born, I was born this way/ From London, Paris, Japan, back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” he croons with conviction while plucking his guitar. “No matter gay, straight, or bi/ Lesbian, transgender life/ I’m on the right track, baby/ I was born to survive/ No matter black, white, or beige/ Asian or Latinx made/ I’m on the right track, baby/ I was born to be brave!”
