Lady Gaga Moved to Tears by Fiancé Michael Polansky’s Pre-Show Message at New York City Concert

Before her Mayhem Ball concert in New York City, Lady Gaga received stirring pre-show encouragement from her fiancé, Michael Polansky.

On Friday, August 22, the 39-year-old pop powerhouse made a triumphant homecoming with a two-hour set at Madison Square Garden—her first headlining New York appearance since closing out The Chromatica Ball at MetLife Stadium in 2022.

Midway through the show, she shared the uplifting words she’d heard backstage. “Every step through these streets reminds me of the battles I’ve waged for my dreams and for who I am,” she told the crowd, recalling her conversation with friend China. “I said to her, ‘Maybe I’ll fight my way through every song—because here in New York, you have to earn it.’”

Her friend’s advice struck a chord. “Sometimes the greatest victory is simply showing up,” Gaga said, her voice thick with emotion.

She then described Michael’s poignant last-minute message: “Right before I stepped onstage, he whispered, ‘Go out there and let the crowd fill you up.’”

Buoyed by that affirmation, Gaga launched into “Hair,” the Born This Way track that originally climbed to No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011. It marked the song’s debut in her Mayhem Ball setlist.

Reflecting on the album that birthed the song, she praised New York as its creative cornerstone. “I couldn’t have made this record without this city,” she said. “This evening is for your dreams—show up, and let them find you.”
