After being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday (Oct. 30), electronic-music pioneers Kraftwerk are announcing plans for a 2022 North American tour that will kick off on May 27 in St. Louis, Missouri. The run of shows will make up some of the dates from the band’s 2020 tour, which was canceled due to COVID-19
The 2022 tour will feature a number of 3-D visuals and performance pieces, part of Kraftwerk’s legacy of “Gesamtkunstwerk” — which translates to “a total work of art” in German.
Kraftwerk was founded in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider — the latter of whom died of cancer in May 2020 — in their Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all of their albums. By the mid-1970s, Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic soundscapes and musical experimentation using robotics and other technological innovations, including synthetic voices and computerized rhythms. The group had a major international influence across a range of music genres.
Tickets for Kraftwerk’s North American 3-D concert tour go on sale to the general public Friday (Nov. 5) at 10 a.m. local time. American Express Card Members can purchase tickets in select markets before the general public beginning Tuesday (Nov. 2) at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday (Nov. 4) at 10 p.m. local time.
