Kneecap Banned From Canada Over Alleged Support for Terrorist Groups: “We Will Not Accept It”

Irish rap collective Kneecap has been declared inadmissible to Canada after federal officials concluded the group’s statements and activities run counter to Canadian laws and values, including allegations that they promote violence, hatred and support for terrorist organizations.

The announcement came in a video posted to MP Vince Gasparro’s X account on Sept. 19, 2025. Gasparro — who is a parliamentary secretary focused on combating crime — said Canadian officials found the band’s remarks “contrary to Canadian values and laws” and stated the government “will not tolerate the advocating of political violence, terrorism or Anti‑Semitism and hate more broadly,” adding that Kneecap is “ineligible” to enter the country.

Kneecap have become known for outspoken live performances in which they frequently denounce the war in Gaza and voice pro‑Palestinian positions. The group has repeatedly characterized Israel’s conduct in Gaza as “genocide,” a conclusion reached by a recent United Nations commission of inquiry.

In an Instagram statement the band — comprised of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí — strongly rejected Gasparro’s claims, calling them “wholly untrue and deeply malicious” and announcing plans to pursue legal action. The group pledged to vigorously defend their stance and said that, should they prevail in court, they will donate any awarded funds to support child amputees in Gaza.

The decision prompted the cancellation of a scheduled Canadian tour in October. In a follow‑up message to Canadian fans, Kneecap apologized for the canceled performances while reiterating that they will not be silenced and encouraging supporters to speak out.

Earlier, in August, Kneecap withdrew from planned U.S. dates ahead of a London court appearance in which Mo Chara is due to respond to charges alleging support for groups that include Hamas and Hezbollah. The band told fans at that time they were sorry for any disruption and hinted at a special future offering for U.S. audiences.
