Variety has reported that a live-action television adaptation of “Kiki’s Delivery Service” is currently in development.
BBC Studios will spearhead the production, with a ten-episode inaugural season slated to draw inspiration from the first of Eiko Kadono’s six-book series.
The most iconic interpretation of “Kiki’s Delivery Service” remains the 1989 animated masterpiece directed by Hayao Miyazaki at Studio Ghibli. The narrative centers on a young witch named Kiki who, in accordance with long-standing tradition, must spend a year away from home to complete her training. Settling in a coastal town, she eventually establishes an aerial express delivery service.
The upcoming series will be spearheaded by writer Irena Brignull, whose previous credits include the Netflix adaptation of “The Little Prince.” Further details regarding the cast and the official release schedule will be shared at a later date.
