Kid Cudi Wore a Custom Wedding Dress to the CFDA Awards: See the Photos

Kid Cudi continues to reign supreme on the fashion front, as his appearance at the CFDA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 10) demonstrated.

The rapper showed up to the annual event — which acknowledges the achievements of fashion designers, creative directors and innovators in the fashion world — in an ornate wedding dress, full body lace tights and a veil alongside his gown designer and CFDA’s American emerging designer of the year nominee, Eli Russell Linnetz.

“I just out of the blue sent him a text of a wedding dress and I was like, ‘Will you be my bride?'” Linnetz told People of the origins of Cudi’s look. Cudi later told the magazine, “I trust this man so I was down to take it wherever his mind went.”

This isn’t the first time that Cudi has worn a gown in a public space. In April, the 37-year-old took to Saturday Night Live to perform “Sad People” from his Billboard 200 topping album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, and wore a floral Off-White dress. Two months after the performance, Cudi revealed that he wore the dress to pay homage to Kurt Cobain and inspire his fans.

“The image of seeing Kurt Cobain in a dress was very rock n’ roll to me, that was cool. So I already made my mind up years ago that I wanted to do this,” Cudi said in an episode of The Shop: Uninterrupted. “And it’s cool because I’m also giving confidence to the kids and telling them to be themselves and do what they want to do.” He added, “I’ve never been someone who’s like thinking about the backlash. I don’t give a f–k about what anyone thinks. You can’t when you’re doing this s–t. I knew it would piss some people off, but I love that. Because hip-hop is so weird about s–t.”
