Two years following Britney Spears’ revealing memoir, The Woman in Me, her former spouse Kevin Federline is now ready to narrate his own journey. Publisher Listenin announced that Federline’s forthcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, will debut in audiobook and hardcover formats on October 21. This publication marks his inaugural opportunity to candidly recount the pivotal moments, relationships, and personal truths that have shaped his existence.
A father of six, Federline—whose elder sons Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18, were born during his marriage to Spears—began his career as a backup dancer in the mid-1990s before their 2004 wedding. The forthcoming memoir, hailed as a profound exploration of fame, fatherhood, and the hidden toll of public scrutiny, chronicles his evolution from modest beginnings to a life lived under the global gaze. It delves into his perseverance through relentless media attention, headline-grabbing romances, and the challenges of parenting amidst unceasing public interest.
Widely recognized as K-Fed, Federline’s early credits include touring with acts like P!nk, LFO, Justin Timberlake, Destiny’s Child, and Michael Jackson. His high-profile relationship with Spears soon catapulted him into tabloid notoriety. Their often tumultuous union dominated headlines until their divorce in 2007, after which he largely receded from the public eye.
In announcing the memoir, Federline stated, “This work is my most intimate and unfiltered. I’ve chased monumental ambitions, navigated profound heartache, and withstood unrelenting criticism, all while striving to be the steadfast father my children deserved amid constant public upheaval. For anyone curious about my story, the answers lie within these pages.”
Beyond their joint appearance on UPN’s unvarnished reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic, Federline—now 47—ventured into music with his solo album Playing With Fire (2006), promoted by the single “PopoZão” and met with predominantly negative reviews. During his marriage to Spears, he also secured various endorsement deals and made brief appearances on television series such as One Tree Hill and in the film American Pie Presents: The Book of Love.
In the aftermath of their divorce, Federline largely retreated from celebrity culture, focusing on a career as a DJ. He fathered two children with former fiancée and actress Shar Jackson before his marriage to Spears. In 2013, he wed former volleyball athlete Victoria Prince, and they share two daughters. During Spears’ 13-year conservatorship—when her father and legal team managed her personal and financial matters following well-publicized mental health struggles—Federline maintained primary custody over his sons Sean and Preston.
You Thought You Knew represents the inaugural release from Listenin, an audio-centric imprint launched by Barracuda Bay Productions (known for Hockey 24 and This Is North Preston). Specializing in “self-narrated biographies of notable figures,” Listenin will prioritize audiobook distribution, while also offering hardcover and e-book editions of Federline’s story.
