She’s only 17, but Kenzie (aka Mackenzie Ziegler) is already entering a new phase of her musical career with her new single “Happy for Me.”
A gentle, mesmerizing song with a widescreen, sing-along chorus, “Happy for Me” finds Kenzie getting over a toxic ex while simultaneously enjoying a new person who helps her value her self-worth.
“I’m outgrowing clothes that still fit me / And exes who never knew how to treat me,” she croons with a tinge of regret. “Until I met you / Never felt so myself, never felt confidence… finally, I’m happy for / happy for me.”
The younger sister of Sia pal Maddie Ziegler, Kenzie first caught the public eye on the TV series Dance Moms and has since gone on to release two albums and pull in 21.5 million TikTok followers. “Don’t take my TikTok seriously,” she notes in her bio on the app, but she’s definitely poured her heart into “Happy for Me,” which seems to indicate a new, more confident and musically mature evolution in her career.
Kenzie will take over Billboard’s Instagram on Saturday, noon ET.
