Kenshi Yonezu’s “Pale Blue” rises to No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, dated June 14 to 20, after racking up the most total points for a solo artist during this chart year so far.
The CD sold 161,252 copies — about 3,000 copies short of NMB48’s “Shidareyanagi,” which debuted at No. 3 on the tally (163,977 copies), but enough to boost the track 3-1 on the latest tally, combined with downloads (No. 1 for the third week, 28,334 units), radio airplay (No. 1 for the second week), and look-ups (No. 1), which counts the number of times a CD is ripped to a computer.
BTS’ “Butter” holds at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100 for the second week, still ruling streaming, video views and Twitter mentions with figures also remaining mostly level. As the global superstars’ summer anthem continues to rule the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth straight week, their Japanese-language greatest-hits collection BTS, The Best has breathed new life into some of their past tracks, including “Dynamite,” which rises 8-4 on the Japan Hot 100, as well as “Film Out,” “Stay Gold,” “DNA,” “Boy With Luv” (feat. Halsey) and “Life Goes On,” all of which return to the tally.
J-pop girl group NMB48’s “Shidareyanagi” sold about 17,000 more copies than previous single “Koi nanka No Thank You!” to lead physical sales this week, but lacked in other metrics — No. 16 for look-ups and the same for Twitter — and bows at No. 3 this week.
