Kelly Rowland Says Beyonce & Michelle Williams Give Her Real-Talk on Her Music: ‘I Always Know They’re Gonna Say Something’

Sometimes, your best friends can be your harshest critics. At least that’s what Kelly Rowland said on Monday night (May 17) on The Late Late Show when host James Corden asked the singer what kind of advice she’s gotten over the years from her Destiny’s Child bandmates about her solo music.

For instance, did she reach out to Beyoncé and Michelle Williams when she was putting together the songs for her recent EP, K? “Every time. “Absolutely. I remember actually [I] sent Michelle a song and I was so hyped … but I always know they’re gonna say something, and Michelle is like, ‘This is awesome … you need to re-record that vocal!” she recalled with a chuckle.

“And P.S., B’s done it too. But it’s only because we know each other’s best, you know what I mean? And they bring out the best in me,” she explained about her good friends, who, not for nothing, were also on Zoom when she gave birth to her son Noah in January. “We’re able to critique each other in such a beautiful way. And it’s with love, so when they’re giving me notes I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s true!'”

So, Corden wondered, when they send her songs, does she give back what she’s gotten because of what they’ve said about her vocals? “No … but maybe a little,” Rowland admitted with a hearty laugh. She also performed the moody “Flowers” on the show, wearing a crimson red dress covered in fluttering feathers while standing in a shady grove.
