For Monday’s (June 14) Kellyoke performance, Kelly Clarkson took Olivia Rodrigo’s No. 1 smash “Drivers License” for a test drive.
The 39-year-old superstar brought the 18-year-old hitmaker’s breakup ballad to the stage of The Kelly Clarkson Show with an ambient chorus of car noises and, of course, red lights that will make any viewer stop dead in the tracks while staying true to the melancholic piano-driven melody provided by her backup band Y’all.
“Drivers License” is Rodrigo’s blockbuster debut single that was released ahead of her Billboard 200 No. 1 debut album Sour, which had the biggest week of any album in 2021. The song spent eight weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year while simultaneously dominating the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts to boast the biggest song in the world.
Clarkson isn’t the only winning alum of a singing competition TV series to take the song for a spin. Danielle Bradbery, the season 4 champion of The Voice, flawlessly belted the heartfelt hit for her “Stairwell Session.”
