Kelly Clarkson Makes a Splash With Her Cover of This Cher Hit: Watch

Talk about a flashback Friday! Kelly Clarkson dug into the archives for a major hit for her Kellyoke segment on the Friday (May 21) edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

This time, the three-time Grammy winner took on Cher‘s version of the hit “The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss),” from the soundtrack to the 1990 film Mermaids. The TV personality’s powerful pipes shined and added some sass during the catchy song. “You’re not listenin’ to all I say/ If you wanna know if he loves you so/ It’s in his kiss/ Ohhhhh it’s in his kiss!” she belted out.

Cher’s take on the song was a hit around the world, and spent 16 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 33 in January 1991. Soul singer Betty Everett previously took the song, written by Rudy Clark, to the Hot 100’s summit, in 1964. The tune spent 13 weeks on the chart, and peaked April 11 of that year.

“The Shoop Shoop Song” was first recorded by Merry Clayton in 1963. In addition to Cher, Everett and now Clarkson, the tune has been covered by various artists, including Linda Lewis and Linda Ronstadt.

In recent weeks, Clarkson has covered hits by artists such as Daft Punk, Monica, Aerosmith, and many more. Watch her take on “The Shoop Shoop Song” below:
