Kazunori Yamauchi Announced a Massive Gran Turismo 7 Update and Revealed Sales Figures
Gran Turismo remains one of PlayStation’s flagship franchises, and the success of the seventh entry has shown that Polyphony Digital is back in top form.
After the series’ main rival, Forza Motorsport, halted development, it might have seemed the developers could relax. Instead, the team is pressing on and preparing a major update scheduled for December 2025.
The Spec III update will be the largest in Gran Turismo 7’s history. It will add eight new cars, two circuit complexes, and additional improvements that are still being kept confidential. The developers call this patch the most extensive the game has ever seen.
But that’s not all. Studio head Kazunori Yamauchi shared another important milestone: as of June 25, 2025, total Gran Turismo sales have exceeded 100 million copies. This further reinforces the franchise’s position as a cornerstone of Sony’s portfolio.
