Katy Perry Strums, Sings Beatles’ ‘All You Need is Love’ in Holiday Gap Ad

Katy Perry is ready to rev up a love-filled holiday season. The singer stars in a new Gap ad for the chain’s 2021 All Together Now end-of-year campaign in which she sings a cover of the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love.”

In the minute-long spot, Katy wakes up, pulls off her eye mask and begins singing the 1967 No. 1 Fab Four hit from the Magical Mystery Tour album as she gets ready for a day on the set by running on the treadmill, putting on a make-up mask and slipping on a Gap sweatshirt, baseball hat and dark shades to make the trek from her chauffeured Tesla to set.

“There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done/ Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung/ Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game, it’s easy,” Perry sings, hitting the soundstage in a pink hat, matching turtleneck, sweatpants and a red scarf as fake snow fills the air and a string and horn section rev up the arrangement.

While Perry strums and smiles through the cover, all around her young people in colorful Gap comfy clothes dance, kiss and celebrate the season. In a statement, the retail chain said the spot is a “tribute to the power of working together to foster love, kindness and acceptance.” In addition, it reported that the release of the full-length version of the track — which coincides with Perry’s 37th birthday on Monday (Oct. 25) — will include a donation of $1 for every stream of the song on Spotify, up to $100,000, to the charity Baby2Baby.

“Reimagining one of the most recognizable and emotional songs of our time with an iconic brand like Gap, having such a special and important message, has been a dream,” said Perry in a statement that noted that her first paying job at 16 was folding clothes at the Gap in Santa Barbara, California. “And what better reason to partner than bringing people together to spread joy for the holidays and raise money for Baby2Baby, a charity that’s close to my heart. Children are our future.”
