Katy Perry revealed her official collaborative single with Pokémon will be titled “Electric” and released on Friday, she announced on Tuesday (May 11).
The pop star shared in January that she will be partnering with Pokémon on a star-studded program to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the popular franchise in conjunction with Universal Music Group. “Pokémon has been a constant in my life from playing the original video games on my Game Boy, to trading Pokémon TCG cards at lunch, to the adventures of catching Pokémon on the street with Pokémon GO,” Perry said in a statement earlier this year.
The yearlong P25 Music collaboration includes the Pokémon 25: The Album, which will be released in fall 2021, and feature 14 songs by 11 UMG artists, including Perry, J Balvin and Post Malone. Malone’s version of Hootie & the Blowfish‘s “Only Wanna Be With You,” which hit No. 83 on the Billboard Global 200 chart in Apriil, is on the Pokémon 25 album track list following his cover performance at the virtual concert in February. Another surprise artist will join them in releasing a song inspired by the Pokémon franchise, along with a music video and merchandise collection.
“I know y’all have been waiting for this one and it’s almost here! Presave ELECTRIC my collab for @pokemon’s 25th anniversary!” she shared on her socials, later adding a promotional poster of her with Pikachu.
