Kane Brown Brings ‘One Mississippi’s Carnival to His ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Performance: Watch

Kane Brown

Jimmy Kimmel Live! spotlighted Kane Brown’s performance of his new song, “One Mississippi,” on Tuesday (Aug. 24). Niall Horan, known for his work with One Direction, as well as his solo albums including Heartbreak Weather, served as guest host for the evening.

Brown’s smooth, relaxed vocals lead on this fiddle-drenched tale of someone who is eager to keep meeting up with a lover, even when he knows this romantic rollercoaster ride could likely end in heartbreak.

“We’ll be gone and back again/ But always wind up right back where we are/playin’ roulette with our hearts/ and blowin’ smoke rings in the dark,” Brown sings on “One Mississippi,” leaning toward a more traditionally country sound than some of his other recent musical offerings, such as his collaboration with Blackbear on “Memory.”

Brown’s band performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was filmed in the same location where his official music video for the song was filmed, a festival setting complete with taco stands, carnival rides and neon lights.

One of the co-writers on the track is newcomer Levon Gray, who penned “One Mississippi” with Brown, Jesse Frasure and Ernest K Smith. Gray and Brown began working together after Gray tagged Brown in an Instagram Story. Brown was impressed with Gray’s music and invited him to Nashville to co-write songs together, resulting in “One Mississippi.” Now, not only does Gray have a co-writing credit on Brown’s current song, but Brown signed Gray to his Verse 2 Music company.
