Few series have experienced the meteoric rise of Kagurabachi. Even in its infancy, Takeru Hokazono’s gritty revenge odyssey was championed by an online community eager to crown the next Weekly Shonen Jump titan.
After years of mounting anticipation, the property is finally transitioning to the screen. The 2026 Anime Expo served as the perfect stage for the global Kagurabachi World Tour to unveil the project to eager audiences.
We were among the first to witness the visceral opening 20 minutes of the premiere. The screening was followed by an insightful panel featuring voice actor Taihi Kimura (Chihiro Rokuhira), editor Takuro Imamura, and producer Koichi Yasuda, who provided a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse before the official broadcast begins in April 2027.

The story follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a young man shattered by the murder of his father—the legendary swordsmith Kunishige Rokuhira—and the theft of six mystical Enchanted Blades by a sinister criminal faction known as the Hishaku. Wielding Enten, the secret seventh blade, Chihiro descends into a ruthless crusade that expands into an epic struggle for the fate of the weapons themselves. It is this masterful blend of supernatural combat, sharp aesthetic sensibilities, and grounded character beats that has propelled the manga to the forefront of modern Shonen success.

Saturday’s showcase confirmed that the manga’s distinct visual flair transitions seamlessly into animation. After months of tantalizing snippets, the first 20 minutes proved both breathtaking and brutal, satisfying fans of high-octane swordplay. Seeing the action sequences leap from the printed page to the screen was a singular experience, marked by impeccable pacing.

Director Tetsuya Takeuchi employs sharp, canted camera angles that lend the show a unique visual language, while Yutaka Yamada’s score provides a haunting, ethereal atmosphere. The music shifts effortlessly from delicate piano melodies to explosive, jazz-infused crescendos during combat, heightening the emotional stakes. It is an impressive debut that anime audiences will not want to overlook next spring.

For those eager to catch a glimpse of Chihiro’s blade work firsthand, the Kagurabachi World Tour continues at Anime NYC this August.
