Netease has officially pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 9, set to launch this Friday, July 10. During a recent developer livestream, the studio showcased a high-stakes cinematic trailer that highlighted two incoming heroes—Jubilee and The Hood—while setting the stage for a dramatic conflict involving the X-Men nemesis, Apocalypse. The footage culminates in a shocking cliffhanger as Apocalypse finds himself on the receiving end of a surprise blade strike.
Jubilee enters the fray as a Strategist. Her kit is uniquely aggressive, allowing her to manipulate pyrotechnic energy to both harm opponents and bolster her squad. She brings mobility to the role, utilizing mid-air hovering to evade incoming fire while deploying protective energy bubbles to shield her allies. Her Ultimate ability is a powerful displacement tool, capable of knocking back clusters of enemies—perfect for securing environmental kills.
Narratively, Jubilee’s allegiance to Apocalypse is born of desperation. Serving as the “Horseman of Famine,” she hopes that aligning with the ancient mutant will help restore her son, Shogo, from his current draconic state.
“Driven by a fierce determination to protect her son, Jubilee channels vibrant plasma energy into radiant, shimmering projectiles,” the developers noted in the reveal. “With the added infusion of her vampiric abilities, her fireworks display serves as both a beautiful spectacle and a lethal threat on the front lines.”
The Season 9 rollout continues beyond the initial launch. Players can look forward to the “Thebes” convoy map arriving on July 23, with The Hood expected to join the character roster shortly thereafter in early August.
