Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island Recovering from 20-Foot Ladder Fall: ‘It’s Been a Terrifying Week’

Ladder safety is paramount. On August 31, the morning of his daughter’s fifth birthday, Saturday Night Live alum Jorma Taccone plunged twenty feet from a ladder at his Connecticut farmhouse, resulting in a fractured pelvis and a detached sacrum.

Speaking from his hospital room on the latest episode of The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers—the podcast he co-hosts with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Seth Meyers—Taccone recounted the mishap in vivid detail.

“I was planning to paint a mural on the barn’s white interior wall, so I borrowed several ladders to hang lights,” he explained. “As I climbed to secure the fixtures, I lost my footing. In those few seconds falling, I genuinely thought, ‘This is it.’”

Despite the severity of his injuries, doctors believe Taccone will be on his feet again within three to six months—a relief shared enthusiastically by his lifelong collaborators. “We were terrified,” admitted Schaffer. “Thank God you didn’t hit your head.”

The Lonely Island have carved a singular niche in comedy music, landing seven entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Their breakout hit, “I Just Had Sex” featuring Akon, peaked at No. 30 in 2011, and collaborations with T-Pain, Nicki Minaj, Michael Bolton, Adam Levine & Kendrick Lamar, and Tegan & Sara further showcased their genre-bending flair.

The trio’s three studio albums all soared into the Billboard 200’s top 15: Incredibad (No. 13, 2009), Turtleneck & Chain (No. 3, 2011) and The Wack Album (No. 10, 2013). In February 2025, they reunited for a greatest-hits medley during SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.

Beyond chart success, Taccone earned a Primetime Emmy for co-writing “Dick in a Box” (performed by Justin Timberlake and Samberg on SNL in 2007) and garnered five additional nominations for songs including “Motherlover,” “I Just Had Sex” and “3-Way (The Golden Rule).” Grammy nods for “I’m on a Boat” (with T-Pain), best comedy album for Turtleneck & Chain, and best song for visual media for “Everything Is Awesome!!!” (from The Lego Movie) attest to their crossover appeal.

As a writer, Taccone has received four more Emmy nominations for his work on SNL and an Outstanding Comedy Series nod in 2021 as executive producer of Pen15.

In 2010, he made his directorial debut co-writing and helming MacGruber. He followed with Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping—which he co-wrote, co-directed and co-starred in alongside Samberg and Schaffer. His most recent feature, Over Your Dead Body, was acquired by IFC in May 2025.
