Late-night host Jimmy Fallon ingeniously illustrated President Donald Trump’s fraught rapport with Vladimir Putin by weaving in Taylor Swift song titles just days before their scheduled Alaska summit.

On the Wednesday night broadcast of The Tonight Show (August 13, 2025), Fallon kicked off his monologue: “Folks, the headlines this week are dominated by Trump and Putin’s upcoming summit—and, of course, Taylor Swift dropping details on her next album.”

He continued, “We thought, what better way to explain their dynamic than through Taylor Swift’s hits?” Fallon quipped that Trump, for years, gazed at Putin singing, “You Belong With Me,” but when advisors warned him to keep his distance, he simply “Shook It Off” while exclaiming, “But, Daddy, I Love Him.”

“Recently, though, it’s been pure ‘Bad Blood,’ and let’s face it, Putin’s got a terrible ‘Reputation,’” Fallon added to roaring laughter, nodding to both Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and fallout from the Epstein revelations. “Americans are anxious that Trump isn’t quite ‘Ready for It,’ since his mind seems like a giant ‘Blank Space.’”

Fallon’s timely routine arrives amid two major cultural moments: Swift unveiling her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, and Trump preparing to meet Putin on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Alaska. Swift first teased the project on Tuesday, August 12, then shared further insights on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast the next day. Meanwhile, Trump has stated he intends to warn Putin of “very severe consequences” if the conflict in Ukraine persists.
