Jim Carrey to Return for ‘The Grinch’ Sequel

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to the holiday classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas is currently in development, with Jim Carrey set to reprise his iconic lead role.

Ron Howard is slated to return to the director’s chair for the project, which is being produced by Universal and Imagine Entertainment. The screenplay is being penned by a trio of writers known for their work on The Cat in the Hat and the hit series Curb Your Enthusiasm: Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandel.

The original Grinch premiered in 2000, based on Dr. Seuss’s beloved children’s book. The story follows the disgruntled, green-furred recluse as he plots to exact revenge on the residents of Whoville after years of mockery. The film was a major commercial success, grossing over $340 million worldwide and winning an Academy Award for Best Makeup.
