Jessie J Returns to the Stage Post–Breast Cancer Surgery with Two-Year-Old Son

On Saturday, September 6, Jessie J invited her two-year-old son, Sky, to witness her live performance for the first time at BBC Radio 2 in the Park in Essex, England. This appearance marked her return to the stage following an initial breast cancer operation over the summer. A second procedure, described as routine by her medical team, is scheduled for later this autumn and has necessitated postponing her fall tour.

Addressing the crowd in Chelmsford, she shared, “Eleven weeks ago today, I underwent breast cancer surgery.”

Reflecting on her last pre-surgery show, Jessie J admitted, “I had no idea what to expect, and I’m still very much in recovery.” Despite her eagerness, she laughed that her doctors keep advising her to “take it easy, girl.”

“Being here fills me with profound gratitude,” she continued. “Hearing you all sing along after so many years makes me feel like a child again—doing what I love most.”

A standout moment came when Sky, wearing protective headphones, ambled to the microphone to greet the audience and serenade any birthday celebrants in the crowd, as captured in fan footage on X.

In June, Jessie J revealed that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in April. Six weeks after her first surgery, she returned to the hospital due to an infection; subsequent tests confirmed the cancer had not spread, prompting her to thank fans for their unwavering support.

During Saturday’s set, she premiered her new single, “Living My Best Life,” explaining its inception: “I was diagnosed two weeks before this song dropped. While many suggested pressing pause, I refused to let that chapter define me.”

“Life is about standing in the storm while holding up your umbrella and moving forward,” she declared. “Music is my healer—it motivates me to wake up each morning with excitement. I hope this song brings you comfort and joy, no matter what you’re facing. This is me, living my best life—and I intend to savor every moment.”
