Jeff Parker has announced a new album called Forfolks with a video for a new song called “Suffolk.” The album is due out December 10 (via International Anthem/Nonesuch). Check out the Cauleen Smith–directed video for “Suffolk” below.
Forfolks is comprised of solo guitar works, including interpretations of Thelonious Monk’s “Ugly Beauty” and “My Ideal,” as well as six original compositions. Parker first wrote and recorded “Four Folks” in 1995, and he recorded “La Jetée” with Isotope 217 in 1997 and with Tortoise in 1998. The new album was recorded by Graeme Gibson at Parker’s home studio in Altadena, California over two days in June 2021.
Parker is set to hit the road with Steve Gunn in December. He’ll continue the tour with Gunn in spring 2022. This past may, Parker covered both David Bowie’s “Soul Love” (with the New Breed) and War’s “Slippin’ into Darkness.”
