Wednesday (May 12) was just one of dem days when Kelly Clarkson goes through another ’90s classic for her Kellyoke segment, and the lucky winner was Monica‘s “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days).”
The talk show host and singer wasn’t all alone for the emotive performance, as her backup singers and band Y’all jazzed things up while she pleaded in the chorus, “I just wanna be all alone/ And you think I treat you wrong/ Don’t take it personal/ Baby, baby, baby, baby, don’t take it personal.”
“Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Them Days)” was released as Monica’s debut single in 1995. The song went to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
But don’t take it personal, Monica, that Clarkson did say she would trust Brandy over her to keep her biggest secret while playing a ’90s edition of “Would You Rather” on The Kelly Clarkson Show last week. “I’ve met Brandy and I’d trust ‘Sittin’ Up in My Room,’ anybody who could write that jam. I would trust her with anything,” she said.
