Your favorite villains are back!

Five years after Suicide Squad premiered in August 2016, its sequel with the slightly confusing title, The Suicide Squad, is officially out on Friday (Aug. 6). Just like the first installment, 2021’s The Suicide Squad follows a group of villains as they’re given the choice to complete a mission in exchange for less prison time.

However, there are some major differences in the sequel, including new characters and a new director.

See below for how to watch it, who is in it, and if the Joker makes an appearance.

Who Stars in The Suicide Squad?

James Gunn has taken on the role of director for the DC reboot, and the cast has switched up a bit.

Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis have all returned in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag and Amanda Waller respectively.

However in this new film, while Will Smith hasn’t returned as Dead Shot, Sylvester Stallone, Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior and Pete Davidson star as King Shark, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Polkadot Man, Ratcatcher 2 and Blackguard, respectively.

Jared Leto, however, will not be returning as The Joker. “No-one but me and a few others knows all the characters in the movie, but if the Joker isn’t in the film, I don’t think it would be strange as he isn’t a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics,” Gunn explained on Instagram in 2019.
