Highlights of the 43rd Golden Rose Film Festival

The Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival concluded in Varna on September 23.

The principal awards were presented as follows:

The award for best debut feature went to the drama Package “Eternity” directed by Magdalena Ilieva, and actor Stoyan Doichev (pictured) received the prize for Best Actor for his performance in the film.

Konstantin Bozhanov’s drama Shameless earned honors for Best Screenplay and Best Director.

Milko Lazarov’s drama The Herd was awarded the jury’s Special Prize. The film also received the Film Critics’ Guild Award, while cinematographer Kaloyan Bozhilov and composer Penka Kuneva were recognized for Best Cinematography and Best Music, respectively.

The top prize for Best Feature Film, along with the Youth Jury Award, went to Stefan Komandarev’s drama Made in the EU. In addition, Gergana Pletneva was honored with the award for Best Actress for her role in the film.

The Audience Choice Award went to Birthday, directed by Ivaylo Penchev, and the top prize for Best Short Film was given to the drama Gadje by Zhorzh Vanev.

The Golden Rose Film Festival is the oldest festival in Bulgaria. First held in 1961, it has always concentrated on Bulgarian cinema. This year’s competition program featured 17 feature films and 24 short films.
