Here Are the Easter Eggs in Luke Combs’ New Video ‘Cold As You’

Eagle-eyed Luke Combs fans will recognize several familiar faces in his newly released video, “Cold As You,” which arrived Tuesday (Aug. 24). Perhaps taking a page out of Taylor Swift’s playbook, Combs drops several special easter eggs throughout the visual.

For one, Combs’ mother Rhonda makes an appearance in the clip as a waitress, but there are several other actors in the “Cold As You” video who have appeared in previous visuals from the hitmaker.

The Couple From “Hurricane”

The main couple featured in “Cold As You” will be instantly recognizable for fans of Combs’ “Hurricane” video, as his new video acts as an extension of sorts to the storyline from “Hurricane.”

“Young Luke” and “Young Nicole”

In another scene, two adorable kids are sitting in a diner booth sharing a milkshake. These are the same kids that portrayed “Young Luke” and “Young Nicole” (an ode to Combs’ wife, Nicole Hocking) from Combs’ “Lovin’ on You” video.

A Sweet Family Moment

Another diner scene shows a grandfather and granddaughter enjoying time together. Fans will recognize these actors as the same ones from Combs’ “Forever After All” video.

Characters From “When It Rains It Pours” Make a Comeback

Fans will recognize the gas attendant from Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours” video. In “Cold As You,” the actor — who’s one of Combs’ longtime best friends — is playing beer pong near the bar. The actress who portrayed Combs’ ex-girlfriend in “When It Rains It Pours” is also shown in the new video’s bar scene.

“Beer Never Broke My Heart”

Several actors from his “Beer Never Broke My Heart” video return in “Cold As You,” mostly in one of the video’s bar scenes. Fans might recognize the football player from “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” as well as the bartender and the boyfriend whose marriage proposal was rejected.

“Cold As You” is set at a diner in Boone, N.C. (Combs attended college at Boone’s Appalachian State University), while the bar scene is located at North Carolina bar Whisky River, owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. The “Cold As You” video was directed by TA Films.

Combs said via a statement, “The team at TA Films did an incredible job on this one. My team and I are always keeping the fans in mind with everything we do, and the fact that we were able to implement so many ‘easter eggs’ — including characters from my past music videos — was really cool. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as we do.”

“Cold As You” is at No. 16 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, while his previous single to top that chart, “Forever After All,” is at No. 5. “Cold As You” marks the seventh single from Combs’ deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get. The song was written by Combs, Randy Montana, Shane Minor and Jonathan Singleton.
