Henry Cavill Action Thriller Night Hunter Becomes Global Streaming Hit on Paramount Plus

Henry Cavill has experienced a streaming resurgence recently. His action movie In the Grey found an audience on Starz. Meanwhile, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare climbed Netflix charts after arriving on the platform.

Audiences are streaming older movies starring Henry Cavill too. One thriller with poor reviews is suddenly popular on streaming services.

The 2019 thriller Night Hunter spent hundreds of days on the Paramount+ global Top 10 charts according to FlixPatrol. It even reached No. 3 on the worldwide movie chart.

The popularity of Night Hunter is unexpected given its initial reception. The movie, released as Nomis in certain regions, holds a 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 37 critic reviews. The audience score sits higher at 50%. The Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus describes the film as contrived and clichéd while arguing that it wastes a talented cast.

Audiences ultimately decided to watch the film on their own terms.

What is Night Hunter about?

Directed by David Raymond, Night Hunter follows police lieutenant Marshall as he investigates a serial predator targeting women. Henry Cavill plays Marshall. He teams up with a vigilante named Cooper, played by Ben Kingsley, after capturing a suspect connected to multiple disappearances. The plot grows more complicated when the suspect continues manipulating events from behind bars. The film draws inspiration from gritty detective mystery classics like David Fincher’s Seven and Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, though it falls short of those titles.

Henry Cavill is joined by other recognizable actors. The cast of Night Hunter features Alexandra Daddario, Stanley Tucci, Minka Kelly, and Nathan Fillion, providing a large ensemble for a small 2019 thriller.

Whether Night Hunter deserves a second life on streaming is open to debate. Its current resurgence gives Henry Cavill fans another title to watch.
