HBO Unveils First Trailer for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” — a Spinoff of “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon”

HBO is further expanding George R.R. Martin’s world — the next adaptation will be based on the Dunk and Egg stories.

HBO has released the first trailer for the series “The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.” The show is set between “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones” — roughly a century before the latter.

As in Martin’s original novellas, the narrative focuses on Ser Duncan the Tall — a young knight of modest origins — and his squire, Prince Aegon Targaryen. Traveling across Westeros under the names Dunk and Egg, they witness some of the era’s defining moments. The first season follows their involvement in the tournament at Ashford.

Peter Claffey stars as Duncan with Dexter Sol Ansell portraying Egg. The season’s episodes are directed by Owen Harris (“Black Mirror”) and Sarah Adina Smith (“Lessons in Chemistry”) — both making their debut in Martin’s universe. Harris also serves among the producers, and the scripts were penned by Ira and Martin Parker, who previously contributed to “House of the Dragon.”

The premiere is scheduled for January 18, 2026. The series will air on HBO and stream on Max.
