Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual assault

A New York court has sentenced disgraced former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison following a conviction for the sexual assault of his former assistant, Miriam Haley. The sentencing was handed down on September 23.

The conviction centers on an incident dating back to 2006. Prosecutors successfully argued that Weinstein forced Haley to perform oral sex at his Manhattan apartment. In June 2025, a jury found the producer guilty of this specific offense. Conversely, Weinstein was acquitted of charges involving former model Kaya Sokola, and the jury remained deadlocked on a third count.

This current sentence follows a retrial of the case. In 2020, Weinstein was originally convicted in New York for the rape of actress Jessica Mann and the forced oral sex assault of Haley, resulting in a 23-year prison term. However, in April 2024, the state’s highest court overturned that verdict, mandating a new trial.

The legal proceedings against Weinstein have stood as a landmark case within the global #MeToo movement.
