The main complaints focus on technical decisions made by Microsoft. Owners of physical editions, particularly on competing consoles, discovered that the disc actually serves merely as a key to download the entire game from the internet.

Even completing the single-player campaign requires a mandatory sign-in to a Microsoft account. Many buyers of the boxed version consider this requirement unacceptable.

Players have also criticized the quality of the remake. In their view, the developers ruined the atmosphere of the original, changed the gameplay and missions, and failed to pay proper attention to technical polish. Some users claim that artificial intelligence may have been used to create certain dialogues and cutscenes, which a segment of the community feels does not meet the standards of the iconic series.
