GTA VI release could trigger PS5 and Xbox shortages: retailer warns of console supply issues
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles may face shortages during the holiday season.
A major retailer warns that demand for the systems could outpace supply. Component shortages and the upcoming launch of GTA VI drive this imbalance.
A senior gaming buyer at a large retail chain reports that manufacturers have already notified them of reduced shipments ahead of the GTA VI release.
The Game Business contacted Sony and Microsoft for comment. Earlier this month, Xbox strategy director Matthew Ball acknowledged ongoing supply challenges.
Demand will likely climb further once a joint marketing campaign between PlayStation and Rockstar begins. The campaign highlights the PS5 experience. GTA VI releases on November 19 and should encourage PS4 and Xbox One owners to upgrade their hardware.
