Green Day Unveils Trailer for Coming-of-Age Road Trip Comedy “New Years Rev”

Green Day is building anticipation for their new feature film, New Years Rev.

On Friday, September 5, the pioneering punk trio revealed the official poster and debut trailer for this coming-of-age comedy, helmed by director Lee Kirk.

“Coming soon: @newyearsrevmovie. The story of three young punks willing to risk it all to follow their dream,” they wrote on Instagram, alongside the stylish film poster.

Presented as a “wild road trip comedy,” the 55-second trailer opens with two teenagers passing a bong in a poster-clad room, lamenting their near-miss of opening for Green Day. Set to the band’s 2004 anthem “Holiday,” the frenetic teaser follows their impromptu taxi ride and cross-country dash toward New Year’s Eve glory.

The trailer crescendos with a high-octane concert sequence starring frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool, before flashing the words: “Coming Soon.”

A Green Day Story

New Years Rev centers on The Analog Dogs, a fictional garage band whose ultimate dream is to perform alongside their punk icons. After believing they’ve landed an opener slot, the Kansas-based trio sets out for California—only to discover the invitation was an elaborate prank.

“Undeterred and wide-eyed, the young musicians hit the highway from Kansas to California, chasing their heroes and their dreams,” reads the official synopsis.

Green Day describes the film as a tribute to “road trip movies, ’90s nostalgia, and chasing the dream no matter how absurd.” The soundtrack features over a dozen of the band’s classic tracks.

The ensemble cast includes Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey and comedian Bobby Lee. New Years Rev premieres on September 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival and is co-produced by Green Day alongside Live Nation Productions.
