Variety has revealed that a reboot of the 2011 Canadian horror picture Grave Encounters is underway. Justin Long (Tusk, Barbarian) has been tapped to play the lead in the new production.
The original was shot in a found-footage style and followed the crew of a paranormal television show who decide to spend a night inside a notorious psychiatric hospital. As the hours pass, the group comes under attack from the demonic forces said to inhabit the facility.
Writers of the first film, Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, are attached to the new project. Long will also produce the reboot alongside his wife, actress Kate Bosworth. Exact release timing and plot details are being kept confidential.
Grave Encounters earned $5.4 million at the box office on a roughly $120,000 budget. A sequel was released in 2012.
