Gloria Trevi was recognized with the special premio compromiso award at the 2021 Heat Latin Music Awards Thursday night (July 1), honoring the social commitment she’s had throughout the years via her Ana Dalai Foundation.
“I’m a very committed person,” she exclusively tells Billboard. “With my work, my family, and my fans who overall, I consider my tribe.”
Through her foundation, named after her late daughter, the Mexican singer supports the well-being and development of homeless children and inmate women who give birth in prisons, provides essential resources for victims of natural disasters, and more. She reveals that she donated about $80,000 worth of machinery after a recent earthquake in Mexico.
“I named the foundation after my daughter. It’s my way of demonstrating that I love her,” she notes. “We always try to unite and help different causes.”
In addition, Trevi is an advocate against bullying, supports the LGBTQ+ community through her alliance with the GLAAD organization, and partnered with Mexico Artesanal to employ over 400 artisans to create limited-edition face masks.
“One of my dreams, after I finish giving concerts, is to dedicate myself fully to these types of causes and social commitments,” she shares.
Trevi is currently making the rounds on Mon Laferte’s powerful track “La Mujer,” but she promises a tour and big announcement soon. “A cool surprise is coming,” she says. “My first single off of my new material is coming soon and it’s a collaboration with a phenomenal artist.”
