Ghost Recon 25th Anniversary Video Reveals Free Wildlands Story And Gameplay Updates, Confirms New Game

To celebrate the 25th milestone of the iconic franchise, Ubisoft hosted a dedicated Ghost Recon showcase. While the spotlight shone brightly on an expansive, complimentary update headed to Ghost Recon: Wildlands, the publisher also delighted fans with a cascade of new announcements—culminating in the official confirmation of the next installment in the series.

Arriving today as a free narrative expansion, Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites thrusts players back into the fray. The storyline introduces an enigmatic, masked vigilante known as La Llorona, who is on a ruthless crusade for vengeance against local cartels, Unidad, and the CIA for past atrocities. Operatives must neutralize her devoted faction, Los Penitentes, navigating treacherous terrain characterized by punishing weather, severely restricted visibility, and a total lack of backup.

Furthermore, the update breathes new life into the 2017 title by introducing native 4K resolution and smooth 60 frames-per-second gameplay on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Alongside a visual polish, players gain unprecedented control over their experience through deep customization features. You can now manually dictate the time of day and weather conditions for operations, as well as fine-tune difficulty metrics individually—allowing you to scale enemy lethality and armor durability to your liking without altering the core preset.

Last Rites also integrates mechanics previously locked behind Ghost Mode and niche PvE playlists, including authentic reloading animations, the choice between carrying one or two primary firearms, and optional friendly fire. For maximum immersion, players can disable interactive object outlines, throw trajectory guides, and mute audio cues tied to hidden UI elements. Additionally, the patch delivers a wealth of complimentary cosmetics, including unreleased camo patterns, gear salvaged from the defunct Mercenaries mode, and exclusive 25th-anniversary memorabilia. To top it all off, the fan-favorite Predator crossover event makes a triumphant return.

As part of the anniversary festivities, Ubisoft is hosting extended free play weekends for both Wildlands and 2019’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, letting gamers dive into the full experiences free of charge through August 10. Breakpoint is similarly receiving a dedicated 25th-anniversary reward bundle. Nostalgic fans can also claim 2012’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier entirely for free by adding it to their Ubisoft Connect library before August 13. To round out the celebration, massive franchise discounts of up to 95% are live across Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Ubisoft Connect.
