Ghost of Yotei Receives Near-Perfect Score in Japanese Magazine but Can’t Surpass Tsushima

The Japanese magazine Famitsu has released a new issue featuring a review of Ghost of Yotei. The PS5 exclusive earned an almost perfect score — 39/40.

Such high marks are uncommon from Famitsu: according to Push Square’s tally, only 30 games have ever received a flawless 40/40, while another 55 titles have managed 39/40. Famitsu’s rating system combines four separate scores from four reviewers, each graded on a ten-point scale. In Yotei’s case the breakdown was three tens and a nine.

Notably, Ghost of Tsushima launched on PS4 in 2020 with a perfect 40/40 from Famitsu — at the time it became only the third overseas game to achieve that distinction.

Although Ghost of Yotei didn’t eclipse its predecessor, the result is still a major win for Sucker Punch. Tsushima was enormously popular in Japan, and a strong Famitsu score could help Yotei replicate that success—or at least that’s what Sony is hoping for.
