Christian Nodal and Mexico’s newcomer Gera MX made Billboard history with their country-meets-hip-hop collab “Botella Tras Botella,” a song that has pure soul.
“This song did not have a marketing strategy or a plan. It has soul,” Gera previously told Billboard. “I wrote it thinking about someone very important to me, and people can tell that it hurt me a lot. I can’t find any other explanation and it’s beautiful. You’re not only showing off your artistic side but also your human side.”
The song, born during a carne asada hangout in the midst of the pandemic, tells the story of a man who’s hanging out with his bros but can’t get over his ex and breakup.
“Botella Tras Botella” made history on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as the first Regional Mexican title to enter the list in its almost 63-year history. In addition, it debuted at No. 3 on Hot Latin Songs and in the top 10 on both Global charts: No. 4 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 9 on Billboard Global 200.
“This is something nice that’s happening to two friends from Mexico,” Gera said. “It feeds your soul and makes you believe in yourself 1,000 percent more.”
Below, check out the complete lyrics translated to English.
About her, about her, I only talk in all of my hangouts
I have my friends fed up
They tell me: “Bro, you need to overcome her”
But I can’t
To be quite honest, I don’t want to
I rather drink her memories
The shots taste better that way [Verse: Gera MX & Christian Nodal]I was thinking of calling, I see you everywhere
But we don’t see each other anymore, we could forget about each other
Two drinks and I’m thinking about you again
I hold on, I don’t want to forget you
Feelings of others, jealousy is not good
And if you call me I’ll answer, although that will never happen
I rather not bother you, because I know I’ll mess up again
And not that I’m drinking I feel sadder, it’s going to be morning
Sometimes I forget the sadness when I’m drunk but I never stopped loving you
I was a bad match, my love, calling your cell in all of my hangouts
I added salt to my wound, how I wish to go back to yesterday
I get sentimental, I’m always remembering you
(I’m always remembering you)
I get depressed very often and I even burned you a CD
(I even burned you a CD)
About her, about her, I only talk in all of my hangouts
I have my friends fed up
They tell me: “Bro, you need to overcome her”
But I can’t
To be quite honest, I don’t want to
I rather drink her memories
The drinks taste better that way [Bridge: Gera MX]I was thinking of calling you
I was thinking of calling you
But we don’t see each other
But we don’t see each other
I get sentimental, I’m always remembering you
(I’m always remembering you)
I get depressed very often and I even burned you a CD
(I even burned you a CD)
So that you don’t have to dedicate a song like this one
Peace
