Tabloid reports suggest George Miller is developing a television prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, with HBO Max slated to produce the project.
Following Furiosa’s disappointing box-office performance, any new Mad Max feature feels unlikely—perhaps that is why Miller has opted for a series format. In any event, funding has already been secured for the project, now titled “The Wasteland”.
Sean Grant, who previously worked on Justin Kurzel’s Nitram, is attached to write the series.
Miller has been cultivating the idea for The Wasteland since 1987, exploring it in various forms across Mad Max comics, video games, and tie-in novels. Now the concept will also be brought to television.
